Han and Leia

Okay, I posted this on my old blog before it got deleted, but I wanted to repost it because I discovered another stay home mom out there whose husband is a Star Wars collector. This one is for you, Ewokgirl. It was taken at Celebration IV, and it's the closest my husband and I will probably ever get to going to an event in costume. We did one of those portraits where they stuck our faces in the photo. It was VERY hard for me to keep a straight face!!!

I Am Not Even Kidding

Right after I got done writing the previous post about my husband getting me a Dell, I went upstairs to get Emily from her crib to go pick up the boys, all on cloud nine. I was even humming the Dell song as I strapped her into her car seat. I hopped into the driver's side of the van, started it up, backed up and BAM! CRUNCH!

I looked behind me to see the garage door HALF WAY DOWN with a really big dent in it.

I am not even kidding.

Dude, You Got A Dell

You bet I did!!!! Truly, I was very innocently checking our email today, when lo and behold, there was a message from Dell, Inc stating that my order had been shipped!!!

Yes, I went nuts!!!! Screaming, jumping up and down, I called Heth right away. Then I called my husband and left him a voice mail telling him I love love love him. And then I thought I'd be cute and forward the email from Dell to him with my own little love note attached. He was disappointed, of course, that I discovered my birthday gift ahead of time. (I always manage to do that!!)

I've dreamt of those lovely Inspirons that come in eight fabulous colors, humming the catchy little tune they use in their commercials, and dreaming dreaming dreaming that I would someday own one (in red, of course, to match my kitchen).

My angel of a husband BOUGHT ME ONE!!!

Thank you, honey!!!! <3

I'm Pregnant!!!!

Nah, not really. But we're moving. Again. My husband's company made some changes and so his department is being relocated.

You know, it's deja vu. A year ago in September, when I was still pregnant with my daughter, Eric called to tell me we had to have a talk when he got home. And so we found out we'd be moving. Things moved pretty quickly from there, and then on December 30 we moved here.

I'm not freaking out this time. I know what it is like to move now, I know how to find a church, school, doctors, etc, and house hunting is always fun! And it's only 6 hours from here, so the new friends we made here can come visit if they'd like! Or we can come back here to visit them. It's all good.

Library Books

Each Tuesday is Library Day at school for both the boys. Ethan's latest trend is to bring home I Spy books. Those are fun and we look at them together in the mornings before I take him to afternoon kindergarten.

Owen, just like the second graders I used to teach, is really into bringing home the absolute biggest fattest books he can find. This doesn't bother me because I know that the books he reads in class are developmentally appropriate, and we have zillions of second grade level books here at the house.

Last week he brought home a gigantic book on World War II. Not quite sure why that would be available for school children, but I do understand the cool feeling a kid has from carrying around a really huge book. I personally never carried huge books around, but I do remember in 5th grade checking out the exact same book over and over again during my library time. I believe it was called The Strawberry Girl and I have no clue who the author was. I never read it, not even one word, but I checked it out time and again because I loved the crinkly plastic cover protector on it. It was in mint condition, no tears or rips because obviously no one else had checked it out, and it made a nice crinkly sound. The pages had that "old book" smell. And I liked the inside cover even more, because it was decorated with strawberries from margin to margin. I kept it on the corner of my desk. I just might look into finding a copy of it and reading it someday.

Well, anyway, I picked the kids up from school today and checked their backpacks as usual for any homework assignments, notes, etc. My conversation with Owen went like this:

"Oh, it was Library Day today. Your backpack is heavy. I see you got another huge book. What's it called?"

"I dunno."

"Well, what's it about?" (I looked at the cover and saw that it said The Americas. A history book. Boring. (but I didn't say that to Owen).

Then very matter of factly, with a hint of a "You might be interested in this book mom" tone in his voice he said,
"But it has a naked lady in it."

I couldn't help but giggle just a little little bit. Every kid discovers those books. This was a history book with topless Native Americans (who actually looked more like chubby naked Europeans with lily white skin, that's just how old this book was).

I said something like, "Yep, those are Native Americans. It looks like those particular women didn't wear shirts." I tried to have an "Oh, big deal" kind of attitude about it.

I asked Owen if that's why he checked that book out. Of course he said no, and then asked if he could have a snack.

Grossed Out Beyond Belief

We have sliding doors that lead out to the backyard. Emily loves to look out the windows and watch her brothers play. In the track of those sliding doors is a variety of dead flies and beetles. I know there were at least four in there. Why hadn't I cleaned them out of there earlier? Good question, because just now, Emily ATE THEM.

The worst part was that even though the bugs were dead, I was too creeped out to put my fingers in her mouth to remove any leftovers. I said, "Acky! Acky!" and opened my mouth up wide and said, "Ahhhhhh" to try to get her to do it. She chewed for a moment then just smiled at me. I saw a bit of a beetle on the floor next to her. I just couldn't get up the nerve to put my fingers in her mouth and see if she still had some in there. So I went to the kitchen sink and filled a little cup of water up, thinking I'd "drown" them out (if they were still in there) kind of like you'd wash your eye out, you know, when you get something in your eye and pour water over it? Yeah, I thought that'd work. But instead, Emmy just happily sucked on the rim of the cup and managed to take a couple of good swallows of water.

She's fine. She's happily playing with her toys. She didn't gag or choke or anything. My boys never did this, so naturally I'm appalled.

Clothes

Ugh. I went shopping yesterday. I thought I'd update my wardrobe of free youth gathering t-shirts and a multitude of cargo pants and purchased some of the latest fashions. I felt like they looked a little "not right," but the sweet darling little sales gal assured me that they were "perfect!" and "adorable!" and "that's JUST how it's supposed to look!"

So I came home all excited and thought I'd send Heth the link to all my new fashions so she could see them too, since she lives 8 million miles away, and I got on that particular store's website. I discovered that the way I was wearing the clothes looked NOTHING like how the people in the pictures were wearing them...

I wasted 5 whole hours and I don't even want to tell you how many dollars on clothes that do NOT fit me.

I HATE SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES!!!

I'll have to make a trip alllllllllll the way back to the store to see if I can find a size that will work better, otherwise I'll have to return everything.

I'm in Trouble

Well. The other day Owen lost another tooth. And the Tooth Fairy forgot again. Owen kept running through all the reasons why the Tooth Fairy didn't come, naming various things he'd done that day that were naughty or disobedient, etc...thinking it was his own fault that the Tooth Fairy hadn't come.

I felt really bad about it, trying to reassure him that it wasn't his fault. He just wouldn't accept it, so finally I told him the truth about the Tooth Fairy and then gave him his dollar. He was shocked and I think even a little heart broken. I told him that he could still put his teeth under his pillow and we'd still give him money. It's just that I felt bad lying to him about it.

Fast forward to tonight. The boys had been in bed for a good half hour. Ethan was even asleep. Eric and I were in the main living room watching t.v. All of a sudden from at the top of the stairs we heard Owen ask, "Is Santa Claus real?" Eric and I looked at each other. I mean Eric gave me a look of death and then said to Owen, "We'll talk about it tomorrow. You need to go to bed." Owen wasn't satisfied, "But I want to know now. Is Santa Claus real?" Eric and I both answered at the same time, "What do you think?" Owen said in a disappointed voice, "No, since the Tooth Fairy isn't real."

Yeah, I'm in trouble.

Talkin' 'Bout Heaven

The other day while I was driving Ethan to school, he was asking me questions about Heaven.

"Will we have bodies in Heaven? What kind of bodies? When will I go to Heaven? I hope it's not for a long time. Will we have houses in Heaven? I hope we do, because then I could bounce on the clouds and go over to Caedmon's house. Does God have legs?"

Brotherly Love

Ethan was playing with the chunky Legos with Emily and built her a little tower.

New Neighbors

I'm so excited! They're building a house in that vacant lot behind us. This means new neighbors and no more opportunities for my boys to throw rocks (or even be accused of throwing rocks)!

It's fun to just sit in the living room and watch them work.

Weeeeeeeeee!!!!

I mean Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right!!!! We got one!!!

My awesome husband went out to get a haircut and on his way home he called me to tell me he did something that would either make me really mad or really happy. I was immediately jumping up and down all excitedly because he did something spontaneous! And I love spontaneous!

I went through a whole list of everything imaginable. I finally came to a new GameCube (ours broke and I was going to make the kids save their money to buy a new one). When Eric said I was on the right track, I went through them all...a DS? Nope. Play Station? Nope. Xbox? Nope. *GASP* YOU GOT A Wii!!!!!!!! Yep.

For those of you who don't know, it's the latest craze in video game systems. The really fun thing about it is that it is family oriented and you have to get up off the couch and MOVE to play. For example, Eric got a fishing game, so we have to move the controller like a fishing pole to cast, etc. And another awesome thing is that all of our GameCube games work on the Wii!!!! YAY!!!!!!!

You can't even imagine how excited the kids were when he brought it home!! We were all jumping up and down and screaming!

Right now, my kids are cleaning and doing every imaginable good deed they can think of while their father hooks up the Wii. It's going to be a fun night! Supper's in the oven (homemade chicken t.v. dinners~our family favorite) and a night of bowling, fishing, and Mario Party 8. Ethan just announced that he and his brother have cleaned up the whole basement already. Life is good.

Just Catching Up

Emily has been very busy crawling around, picking up EVERY LITTLE THING and putting it in her mouth. But this is good, because it really forces me to keep the floors clean. I'm sweeping and vacuuming much much more than I have been lately.

I decided that Emily must be ready for "real food" since she was trying to eat every little thing she'd find on the floor. So I gave her a biter biscuit.

She loved it, and after making it all slippery from her slobber, she had a blast squishing it in her hands, kind of like a bar of soap. The boys were jealous that she got a "cookie" and so I broke one in half and gave them each a part. Ethan loved it, Owen wasn't thrilled but he still ate it.

Emily was covered in cookie and needed a bath. I wasn't going to be able to clean up all the cookie just by wiping her down with paper towels or baby wipes. I thought about how I was going to need to clean out the tub and didn't know where to put her, all covered in cookie, while I went upstairs to do that. So instead, I just cleaned out the sink and put her in there. It was actually easier to bathe her in the sink, because she couldn't crawl all over in the tub, she was pretty much stuck in one spot and couldn't wiggle away from me, plus I didn't have to bend over.

Last night I lowered Emily's crib mattress, because she can pull herself up into a sitting position all by herself! I definitely need to lower it to the bottom holes tonite, because today I walked in and found her like this!!
She was trying to get a doll that was sitting on the couch and discovered how to pull herself up into a standing position. It won't be too much longer, and then it's Houston, we have lift off.

Emmy still loves to play in the end table. I thought I'd post this picture because it's just plain old cute.

Another favorite thing of hers is to crawl around and find the door stops that are connected to the wall. She's figured out that you can twist them and unscrew them to remove them from the wall. We've had to take them off for a while, because she will remove them and crawl around with one in her mouth, sucking on it.
That's all I have for now! Things are going great, we've gotten into a good school routine. I can't wait for football to be over so that the boys get to bed earlier on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights! Tomorrow night our church is having a drive-in movie, where they set up a projector out in the parking lot and have a huge screen to show a movie. We'll be going to that, it sounds like a blast!

Disney Fun

Owen and Ethan went to a friend's birthday party today. The theme was Disney because the family is going to Disney World in a couple of weeks. They went on a treasure hunt for Pirates of the Caribbean, had race-car races for that ride, put giant elephant ears on the spinning teeter totter for flying Dumbo, and made...

Mickey Mouse ears!!! I thought this was particularly creative and especially adorable.
The boys had a great time and are ready to plan a trip to Disney World for our family RIGHT NOW.
