English is so Frustrating

I just found out WEIRD doesn't follow the "i before e except after c" rule. All my life (or at least as long as I've been able to understand the "i before e" rule) I've spelled it WIERD. /huff

yeah, it's stumbled me for years, too. I'm always telling myself...
no, it's not WIerd (like connected by wires... wired) it's Weeeeeird (like, why doesn't this weird language follow any of its own rules?)

LOL, I noticed that yesterday on your blog. The reason? I wrote it like that for quite awhile, until my son pointed it out to me. It was very weird to change. I like the way His Girl remembers it.

Weird is one of many words that I just keep spelling exactly how I want to and then I let spell checker remind me that I am WRONG. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

You are not alone in your wrongness.

Yes Weird is weird that way!!
"It's "i" before "e" except after "c" or when sounded as "A" as in neighbor or weigh." Then there's weird! Too weird for words!

I know! It trips me up all the time! Why MAKE rules for spelling if they are to be broken?

From a former English major--I feel your frustration. When you start to type it, just say to yourself, "How do I spell it again? Oh yeah, it is spelled in a weird way, the opposite of the way I think it should be spelled," and then you'll probably get it right!
